The ferry traffic through the North Fork to the South Fork from the New London to Orient Point Ferry has been a “bone of contention” for local residents for years, not to mention a source for some rather unfriendly hand signals and bumper stickers. Also, traffic to the East End from the west (NYC, LI) is notoriously bottled up at the 4 lanes to 2 lane reduction in RT 27 at Shinnecock.
I may need to wear a flak-jacket in East Hampton for saying this, but a ferry there may not be a bad idea.
